For the past two years, the government has initiated a gathering of forces for democracy in Sweden under the name "Democracy 100 years". On March 15, a final future conference will be held in Stockholm. International Youth Think participates in the program with two Youth Fellows: Wilma Johansson and Julia Strandquist.
Last year it was 100 years since both women and men were allowed to vote in parliamentary elections, and in 1922 the Riksdag received female members for the first time. To celebrate these breakthroughs of democracy - and to strengthen democracy for the future - the "Democracy 100 years" committee has been active since 2020.
March 15 will be a crescendo for the work, which has been going on all over the country. Then, politicians, academics and citizens gather at Kulturhuset in Stockholm under the heading "Democracy 100 years - a future day". The program includes a breakfast seminar, expo area, stage program and artist performances. The International Youth Think Tank will play a key role in the program.
- Framtidsdagen is the perfect opportunity for our young people to present their ideas for the next century, says IYTT's director Urban Strandberg.
On the one hand, a film will introduce IYTT's work and give a taste of the results from this autumn's International Youth Conference at Lindholmen Science Park. It was the third in a row and Youth Fellow Wilma Johansson will present the conference's final report to Peter Örn, chairman of "Democracy 100 years". On the other hand, Youth Fellow Julia Strandquist will present a panel with representatives from various youth organizations by asking questions that IYTT uses in its open democracy talks: "Open Chair Democracy Talks".
Julia Strandqvist and Wilma Johansson will also hold democracy talks with participants during the breaks. Talks will also be held outside Kulturhuset.
