International Youth Think Tank
The project was founded in 2018 and has been part of Lindholmen Science Park and Media & democracy since January 2021. The goal is to promote the democracy movement among 18-24-year-olds in Europe and the initiative is funded until 2023 by the Markus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Foundation. A cornerstone of the project is the International Youth Conferences (IYC). So far, three have been arranged - 2019, 2020 and 2021 - of which the last two with Lindholmen Science Park as hub and host.
The task is to select challenges for the open democratic society and jointly develop concrete decision proposals for dealing with these challenges. After the conferences, the proposals are refined and anchored and presented at open seminars and on the project's website. Decision-makers and academics also participate as inspirational lecturers and commentators.
The project drives and develops further activities and activities to spread ideas and train the target group in entrepreneurship with a focus on the development of democracy and democratic values. An example is the recurring event Lindholmen Democracy Talks which started in the autumn of 2021.
The International Youth Think Tank was founded by Cecilia Malmström, former EU Commissioner, and Urban Strandberg, a political scientist at the University of Gothenburg. The project is led by director Urban Strandberg.
